Tim specialises in terrorism, international humanitarian law and extradition. He led Tatyana Eatwell in the UK Supreme Court case of Gul, which centred on the definition of terrorism in international law and international humanitarian law, and has been instructed in many of the most prominent terrorist trials of the past 15 years. He has also acted in a number of high profile extraditions involving states such as Algeria and Rwanda.
Tim is ranked in Band 1 of Crime QCs in the current edition of ‘Chambers and Partners’ directory and is classed as a leading silk in crime in the current ‘Legal 500’. He is described in those publications as a “powerhouse intellectual”, praised for his “fantastic arguments both on paper and on his feet in court” and is said to have “an art that makes people listen no matter the argument”.
Following the completion of his Ph.D, Tim was a lecturer in law before being called to the Bar. He continues to write and lecture extensively. He is the author of the Terrorism and Maritime Piracy sections of the reference work Blackstone’s Criminal Practice and regularly takes part in training of lawyers overseas on matters of Terrorism, Piracy and International Human Rights, both for Governments and NGOs.
